Transfer GPX from to Garmin using iPhone
Goal:
I’ve recently had some time on my hands so I’ve been familiarizing myself with how to more easily use my electronics while on the road.
I have the Garmin 396 LMT-s and I wanted to transfer the .GPX file that my buddy text me to the device.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it is quite easy!
Setup
Device Specifics

- iPhone paired over Bluetooth with 396 LMT-S
How to:
First I saved the .GPX track to ‘My Files’
Then I opened up ‘My Files on the iPhone. You can see the Pioneertown to Big…te.gpx file below:
Then I selected the file and held it until the options came up:
Once the options were shown, I selected ‘Share’ (near the bottom of the screen above.
This screen pops up:
I then scroll all the way to the left of the apps and select ‘More’ to reveal the screen below where I select Copy to SmartLive (the Garmin App):
When I select it, it opens the Smart Link app and asks if I want to send the file to Zumo
I select the orange ‘Send to zumo’ button and the file is uploaded via Bluetooth to the 396 LMT-S!
Here is a picture of the track on the device:
Conclusion
This was easy and I’m happy that I have the capability for someone to email or text me a gpx while I’m on the road so I can explore new places!
