My Old House

My house was built in the early 40s and it has Plaster with Rock Lathe. The Plaster and Lathe is about 1″ thick so normal anchors don’t work because the gap between the screwhead and the toggle needs to be large enough for the toggles to be able to engage.

I learned this after some trial and error. I initially used the plastic anchors that came with the laundry hanger that I bought and installed.

This held for a few weeks, then when I put my jacket back on it one day, it fell off the wall and plaster dust got all over the floor.

I grabbed my E-Z Anchor Drywall Toggle and did some damage to my wall before I realized that the toggle couldn’t engage because it couldn’t clear the plaster.

I went out looking for a flat contact like solution such as the Flip Toggle bolt and screw instead of the old school Everbilt toggle bolts that contact the Rock Lathe with the 4 point contact. However, I needed a 1/8″ bolt and Everbilt had the solution so I grabbed the reliable 1/8″ x 3″ Everbilt Toggle bolts and got the job done!

Hope this helps someone!
